As Sepulchral Void are putting the finishing touches to their second work on the long distance, "At the walls of Sodom", we catch up with Arkangelus and Tristo to talk about the band, the new album and the roots of doom.

DRR: Hi guys, first of all could you introduce the band to our website guest?

Arkangelus: Hi everybody, we are Sepulchral Void, and our purpose is to bring you some of the best doom and epic metal you're gonna hear in your brief time on earth!

DRR: That's a bold statement...will the new album live out to it?

A: Sure as hell! We put a lot of work on it, and we kept only the best riffs we could write. We are taking our time to finish it up, getting the best we can from the mix. It will sound more epic and more focused that Grave Beyond the Grave, it will kick your fat asses.

DRR: A brief story of the band...who are you?

A: We formed in 2010, when me and Tristo decided the world needed to hear again some classic doom and "slow thrash" heavy music. Doom metal in the last decade has taken a turn thowards sludge, funeral doom, it has become too celebral and too sad, and after all quite boring. We wanted to bring back classic riffing, heaviness and groove. Aggression and ascension. Classic metal themes. We want those heads to bang again. I'm a fan of classic german thrash, that means Sodom to me ahah. The new album title is an homage to this... that's where we are, at the walls of Sodom! Still we are a doom band, so we will not go too fast!

Tristo: We mostly want to make songs that have an identity and can stand by themself.

DRR: Tristo, what are your influences instead?

T: Paul Chain is my reference, and of course Black Sabbath... but Sabbath are an influence on anyone in metal so that does not count. But Paul Chain is the one i listened most in the eighties, i really grew in the old cemetery smell of his riffs and solos.

DRR: Also your look on stage is an homage to Paul

T: It is. But it's also who I really am. There will be a surprise on the new album, a cover... I won't tell you which but it's my favourite Death SS / Paul Chain song.

DRR: So how are the recordings going?

A: I'm finishing the vocals. Unfortunatly I had to interrupt the recordings for a period of time due to some ...ehm... troubles with the autorities. But I have the last recording sessions planned now. Then we will put the finishing touches to the mixing with Federico Farne'; the cover is ready and we can't wait to have it in our hands.

DRR: How is it working with Doom Room Records?

A: It's ok for us, we know we won't see a cent but at least we can make the music we want and have the technical support for recording and the graphic stuff. They also designed our new logo which is super cool. Then they will search support for the distribution and stuff. Fuck the establishment!

DRR: What is the lyrical themes in "At the walls of Sodom"?

A: Regular metal stuff! War, pain, death, religion... We have a song about Attila, we have a viking song. We have a song about the twisted concept of confession in religion. Then a lot of death of course ahah!
